What is the Kid's Club ?

Established in 2001, the Kid's Club, developed and sponsored by members of the San Diego 3-Railers, was a program designed to promote the fun, excitement and educational values of model railroading to children and young adults. With an initial participation of seventeen families, it had grown to over one hundred sixty by 2019.

Unfortunately, the Kids Club was shut down in early 2020 at the start of COVID. It never got going after that because the person who was heading the Kids Club passed away during COVID. Also, the California liability laws became stricter which made it very difficult to re-open the Kids Club without tons of paperwork, insurance, and waivers.

What is happening now is that more parents are becoming members of our SD3R club so they can operate on our layout with their kids during normal museum open hours. If the kids know how to operate the trains, then the parent(s) can just sit there and watch them. However, at least one parent must be present at the layout while their kids are operating.
